Only discovered back in 1958, this adorable animal is the world's most rare marine mammal, beating out even the rarest whale and will be extinct likely by 2018. A member of the porpoise family, the vaquita's numbers have been absolutely devastated by illegal fishing operations, most of these operations occurring within the Gulf of California in Mexico to the point where only in the last three years, more than half of the population of this marine species has been lost.

In addition, tiger habitats have been almost completely destroyed for lumber, agriculture and to make way for roads and highways. It's to the point now where they literally only have about 7% of the land that they once called theirs.

Considered one of the most trafficked animals on the planet, pangolins wear their own armor in the form of hundreds of scales lining their bodies. In fact, these creatures were brought to the brink of extinction in many places, with over 1 million killed within the last decade alone.

Number nine is the Javan rhinoceros. The most endangered of all the rhino species, the Javan rhinoceros is actually considered one of the most endangered large mammals in the entire world.

Only two populations of this species of rhino exist, their combined numbers amounting to less than 60 animals total.
